Current Appeal – Who will your ripple of support reach today?

Meet Davinia!!

At 28, she’s independent, full of infectious energy and determined to go as far as possible to make a difference. She’s about to complete her Masters degree in Clinical Psychology. She works to help people with drug and alcohol problems, and she also puts in time as a counsellor supporting people with disabilities. In between, Davinia finds time to row – a perfect contrast to her tough studies. And just as she does on water, she’s making ripples in life that touch people in positive ways.

Davinia is legally blind

At the age of 11 she was diagnosed with juvenile macular degeneration, a condition affecting the retina of the eye. Davinia has lost her central vision and today she has only 10% remaining vision.

Davinia's story is one of passion for life

Growing up in regional WA, she attended boarding school in Perth where she played netball and first began rowing. It was after her condition was diagnosed that we came to know her at the Association for the Blind of WA – Guide Dogs WA.

Little has stopped Davinia since then. She has attained several degrees, with her Masters on its way. Add to that her work in counselling, beach patrols for her local Surf Club in past years, regular gym workouts, mastering the Tango in dance classes, and you know Davinia is going places.

She’s also a WA rowing champion! Davinia was part of the winning Combination Coxed Fours crew in the 2009 Masters State Championships.

It's this passion for life we'd like to think about when we ask you to support our work

Getting to know Davinia has inspired us all. We’re sure you feel the same way. She’s been touched by the Association’s services, and that is helping her to touch many other people’s lives. So think for a moment about the opportunities you’ll be helping us create when you support this appeal.

Imagine the ripple effect

Like Davinia, we’ve always been determined to make a real difference. From our technology services to children’s orthoptic assessment services to our Guide Dogs, we want to continue reaching people in WA with vision loss.

So think for a moment about the many opportunities you’ll be helping us create when you support this appeal by sending in your gift today.

With our sincere thanks,

Dr Margaret Crowley,
Chief Executive Officer

We would like to thank all members of the Western Australian community who support our work.
